Instructional: Dodging Zig Zag & Bouncing

Former DePauw assistant, current Ohio Wesleyan assistant Keith Long delivers another important video for offensive players.

It doesn’t matter if you’re Michael Cera in Superbad fast, if you run in a straight line, a defender will time up his check and take the ball away from you. Therefore, it is critical for offensive players to change levels against a defenseman to alleviate on ball pressure. In situations where a defender is just covering you along the outside, by using in and out dodging motion, you can assure that a defenseman never touches you unless he’s out of control on his approaches.

While moving in and out, don’t forget to look through the on ball defender to the crease to see the slide coming or an open teammate. A long winded way of saying, keep your head up whilst dodging.
