In tonight’s WPIAL Division I Third Place game, Clayton Krol scored his fourth goal of the night to give Shadyside Academy a 9-8 victory in overtime over Pine-Richland. With this win, Shadyside earns a berth in the PIAA Playoffs with a record of 11-8. Adam Reimer scored four goals for Pine-Richland, PR’s season ends with a record of 13-5.

SSA had a 4-3 lead at halftime, but PR led 7-5 at the end of the third quarter and took and 8-6 lead with 6:58 to go in regulation with a goal from Austin Hughes. Patrick Bush scored for SSA with 2:35 to go and Krol tied it with 1:00 left. On the winning goal in OT, Krol received a pass just outside the crease with his back to the goal and shot it over his left shoulder into the top corner of the goal over the goalie’s left shoulder. Doc Szlachetka was a stand out player defensively for SSA.

On 5/27, SSA will play at Manheim Twp., the champion of Section 3. The winner of tomorrow night’s Mt Lebo/NA game will play at home against Cumberland Valley, the Section 3 runner up. The loser will play the winner of the Section 10 v Section 6 game, likely to be State College.

Shady Side beat Manheim last year 3-2 in overtime in the first round of states.
