Backside Jump Shot Notes

Breaking down the backside jump shot from February’s Scoring Academy.

Player 1

Elevates correctly off inside foot, hands above shoulders on the shot, shot finishes far pipe

Reduce fading to the sideline while dodging, must be vertical

Player 2

Elevates correctly off inside foot, hands above shoulders on the shot

Must elevate shot, cannot shoot high to low inside off a jump shot

Player 3

Must elevate off inside foot, shooting for far pipe

Player 4

Higher elevation on the jump, hands above shoulders when you shoot
Current timing of jump/shot has you shooting as you’re coming back down to the ground, reduces power of shot

Player 5

Timing of shot has you shooting as you’re coming back down to the ground, want to be shooting at the apex of the jump

Must follow through on the shot for the far pipe, don’t push the ball, drive the ball all the way through

Player 6

Shoot at the apex of your jump, hands must be above shoulders, drive ball to far pipe, this shot goes right down the middle (goalie’s chest)

Player 7

More vertical on the dodge, don’t allow defender to make up ground by bowing out

Good timing of jump and shot, finishing shot at the apex of jump

Must be shooting for the far pipe, this shot goes right down the middle (goalie’s chest)
